Sustainable Clothing: Lifestyle Change for Systems Change
Description:
The Problem
The clothing industry faces growing pressure to become more sustainable, but lacks a clear, system-wide understanding of the factors driving this transition. Effective interventions are hard to implement without a comprehensive view of the entire system—across micro, meso, and macro levels.
The Challenge
The key challenge was creating a comprehensive systems analysis of the clothing industry by developing a conceptual model through collaborative workshops.
The Approach
We held four group model building workshops to develop a conceptual model for the clothing transition. Each session built upon the previous, resulting in a holistic view of the system.
Results
The participatory process produced a comprehensive model. It reflects the complexities of the clothing industry transition. The model integrates insights from stakeholders across multiple levels.
Thoughts
This project showed the effectiveness of participatory methods in systems analysis for driving sustainability in the clothing sector.
